Joe Webber has impressed many people throughout the ITM Cup season, including Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie.
Speaking to this blog yesterday, Dave Rennie said he is happy with Webber and what he has showed playing on the wing during a difficult ITM Cup campaign for the Mooloos.
“Joe’s had a strong season. He has certainly been a strong finisher and has been very assertive.”
Rennie didn’t comment on if Webber is set to become a regular starter for the Chiefs in next years Super Rugby competition following his feats with the Mooloos this year.
Joe Webber isn’t a stranger to the Chiefs setup though. In fact he is quite familiar.
Webber spent last season as part of the Chiefs wider training group, but really made a name for himself in the All Blacks Sevens side, and is currently touring with Gordon Tietjens and his men on the 7’s World Series Circuit.
Webber recently won the Player Of The Year for Waikato.
Dave Rennie was also happy with Damian McKenzie’s showings during the season with Waikato ahead of his 3-year stint with the Chiefs which begins next season.
“He has been electric and certainly one of the leading lights for Waikato.”
